Address: Gorton, Manchester

Are you job-seeking, retired; looking for ways to keep fit or busy, or just finding yourself with time on your hands? Do you want to meet people and make new friends? If so, why not think about volunteering with Emerge?

We run three initiatives EMERGE Recycling, FareShare Greater Manchester, which distributes good quality surplus food to Manchester charities, and the reclaimed timber project, Touch Wood, which transforms scrap wood into amazing new products.

We welcome people of all backgrounds and ages to help us achieve our goals of helping people and the planet
Whether you need experience, new skills and a reference to make your CV stronger; want to make a positive difference to the environment and your community, or whether you’d just like to get out of the house and keep busy, we have lots of varied and interesting opportunities available.

We always welcome helpers in our warehouse to put food orders together which we distribute to humanitarian initiatives across the city, as well as drivers to get the food to its destinations.

In the office, we especially value people with customer service skills who can allocate food supplies and talk to contacts in the projects we support.
Warehouse operatives need to be moderately physically fit and have at least basic levels of literacy and numeracy.

Office helpers need to be computer literate and be comfortable talking on the phone.

We provide training, protective clothing and an opportunity to make lots of new friends, whilst giving you the great feeling of knowing you're helping your community by supporting good causes and saving the planet too, through keeping valuable resources out of landfill.

Based in New Smithfield Market, Openshaw, we’re easy to reach; located just off Ashton Old Road which is served by plenty of buses.

We welcome any contribution of time and skills.
