Main Purpose of Job:

• To coordinate and lead the rear yard and team to ensure its operation is smooth and to best effect in order to ensure excellent quality of service to customers, suppliers and colleagues.
• To work with coordinating the front and rear yard operations.

Main tasks of the job:

To lead and manage the yard staff through effective delegation to ensure the following:
• Customers to be served quickly and efficiently
• Depot and customers’ vehicles to be loaded quickly, correctly, safely and without any damage
• Suppliers vehicles to be unloaded quickly, safely and without any damage
• Stock to be put away as soon as possible to
• minimise congestion in the yard
• reduce breakages by not moving it around unnecessarily
• Yard to be kept clean and tidy
• Staff to check customers’ tickets to prevent theft, and report any unlawful behaviour.
• Order picking for deliveries
• To support the transport department by providing the link between the Manager/Assistant Manager (or Transport Manager if applicable) and the yard
• Ensure all vehicles are loaded efficiently and correct
• Ensure stock management and rotation
• Monitor and report stock shortages
• Supervise the ordering of all stock for the yard and warehouse.
• Organise stock-takes in yard and warehouse when required.
• Rotate necessary stock when new stock comes in
• Maintain plant and machinery
• Maintain vehicle checklists for company vehicles on site
• Maintain forklift checklists
• Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures in respect of all aspects of the forklift trucks;

• Ordering of diesel for plant machinery
• Ensure Health and Safety is adhered to at all times
• Ensure staff comply with health & safety procedures at all times
• Carry out daily health and safety checks for both front and back yards
• Report any health and safety issues
• Ensure high standards of housekeeping are maintained
• Ensure security within the yard is of a high standard
• Reconcile all yard tickets at end of each trading day to reduce theft
• Report any theft to management team
• Report any unlawful behaviour


• Basic 45 hours Monday to Friday 7:30am - 5:00pm
• Saturdays on a rota basis 7.30am – 12.30pm
• Some Bank Holidays
• Annual Stocktake weekend
