We have many opportunities for long-term placements within primary schools starting from April 2017.

Currently we are recruiting for and outstanding school based in the vibrant area of White City seeking a Learning Support Assistant to work with two children as follows:

Child 1

Year 4 boy with a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder, ADHD and Social Emotional Difficulties

The pupil has cognitive abilities within the average range, although he may have some dyslexic traits, but his ASD acts as a significant barrier to his learning and academic progress, particularly in reading and writing

He has Interim Funding for part-time support, 15 hours per week, and an Education Health and Care assessment is in progress

Child 2

Year 3 boy with a diagnosis of Specific Language Impairment

English is a second language and it is understood that he also has disordered language in his mother tongue
His language difficulties are a barrier to his academic achievement, particularly in literacy (reading and writing)

This boy has just been awarded an Education, Health and Care Plan with 15-20 of 1:1 LSA support a week, plus regular speech and language therapy

The role:

This is full-time role, starting on Tuesday, 18th April, with a handover week from Monday, 27th March to Friday, 31st March

Pay can be £60 to £80 a day depending on candidate experience

The contract will run at least until the end of the school year (July 2017) but we would anticipate longer, until the end of the school year July 2018

The contractual hours are 8.30am – 4.00pm, Monday to Friday

The role will include:

-Liaising with the Inclusion Manager and class teachers to provide half a day’s support for both pupils, every day (3 hours per child)
-Liaison with the class teacher and Year 3/4 Teaching Assistant to plan learning activities which will enable the pupils to access the full Year 2 curriculum (maths, literacy, topic, PE etc.)
-Preparing visual and multi-sensory resource to support each child’s learning
-Delivering 1:1 and small group interventions which meet the child’s targets (IEP, SALT, OT, Queensmill) and the outcomes of his EHCP
-Supporting the pupils to actively engage on the carpet during teacher input

-Supporting pupils’ Social Skills development following strategies provided by SALT, Queensmill and Inclusion Manager
-Attending SALT sessions with the Year 3 pupil in school and delivering these strategies in class
-Providing supervision during playtime and lunchtime every day, as required by the school
-Maintain a record and monitor progress of both pupils and report to the Class Teacher and Inclusion Manager
-Contribute to IEP meetings and Annual Reviews
-Communicate verbally with parents at the start or end of the school day, or via a Home School book
-Liaise with outside professionals such as Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist and ASD Outreach teacher

Professional Experience:

The candidate must have class-based experience of working with primary-aged children (ideally 7-11 years) with ASD, ADHD and/or speech, language and communication difficulties



Ability to differentiate learning from planning provided by the class teacher, and targets set by the Inclusion Manager and other outside professionals (e.g SALT)

Understanding and experience of the primary curriculum
Excellent behaviour management skills and ability to motivate children to engage and learn

Personal Skills:

oGood communicator
o Willing and able to research information to support understanding of working with children who have ASD / ADHD
o Able to work effectively within a team
o Self-motivated
o Time-management
o Computer skills – able to generate own resources to support learning
